Amerikan media on tietenkin revitellyt fantsuja otsikoita tästä ilosanomasta, joka valitettavasti ei pidä paikkaansa. Verensokeria ja insuliinia pompsauttava pasta ei ikävä kyllä ole laihduttajan paras ystävä. Sillä, että se pompsauttaa niitä vähän hitaammin kuin vaikka sokeri (joksi se elimistössämme nopeasti muuttuu) ei paljon auta.

Valesanomaa pastan lihottamattomuudesta on media toistellut viime vuosikymmenten ajan melko säännöllisin väliajoin. Elintarviketeollisuuden pastaklusteri on teettänyt sarjatyönä tutkimuksia, joissa tarkoin kuopioaisittain mietitty tutkimusasetelma tuottaa halutun tuloksen, joka sitten harhaanjohtavan tutkimustiedotteen avulla tuottaa mediassa halutut otsikot. Tämähän uusinhan oli njuo vanhat tutkimukset kattanut tutkimuskatsaus ja metatutkimus.

Tutkimusraportti päätyi siihen, että jos syö pastaa kohtuudella kolme kertaa viikossa osana matalan glykeemisen indeksin ruokavaliota, saattaa jopa laihtua. Tutkimustiedote laadittiin synnyttämään mediassa otsikoita tyyliin "tiede sanoo, että pasta auttaa sinua laihtumaan" tai "pasta liitetty laihtumiseen".

Aikuisen oikeasti tämä tutkimus osoitti vain, että jos syö pastaa vain vähän, pasta ei ehkä kokonaan kumoa matalan glykeemisen indeksin dieetin mahdollista laihduttavaa vaikutusta.

Hyvin toimiva tutkimus kannattaa uusia aika-ajoin. Media tuskin innostuu, jos sille lähettää kerran vuodessa tiedotteen vanhasta tutkimuksesta, mutta kun tutkimus toistetaan hieman muunnettuna ja kerrotaan että se on uusi, media uutisoi sen. Markkinointiviesti menee toimituksellisessa tekstissä niin paljon paremmin perille kuin maksetuissa mainoksissa, että tällaisten tutkimusten tehtaileminen on hyvin kannattavaa puuhaa. Vastaavan vaikutuksen aikaansaaminen maksetuilla mainoksilla maksaisi maltaita.

Diet Doctor: Syö pastaa ja laihdu, sanovat Barrillan rahoittamat tutkijat (jälleen)

Heh, Diet Doctor osuu naulan kantaan todetessaan, että "osana matalan glykeemisen indeksin ruokavaliota pasta voi auttaa laihtumaan" tuo mieleen sloganin "Coca-Cola sopii osaksi tasapainoista ruokavaliota".

Täällä on aika hyvä juttu ko tutkimuksesta. Se kertoo samalla mitä tuossa oikeastaan havaittiin, eikä siinä taas ole mitään uutta. Siinä todettiin että kolme pikkuruista annosta pastaa muuten matalan glykeemisen indeksin sapuskassa ei sotke ruokavaliota... kuten muuten ei sotkisi mikään muukaan, noissa määrissä :)

Tällä erää kirjoitukseen on haastateltu yhtä jutyun kirjoittajaakin, ja hän vastasi ihan asiallisesti :)
